Aspirations Careers Department

Welcome to Aspirations: Careers at Huntington School

At Huntington School, we take careers education very seriously. Our Aspirations programme is built on firm foundations—guided by the eight Gatsby Benchmarks of Good Career Guidance, aligned with the Career Development Institute (CDI) framework, and shaped by our status as proud members of the CDI.

We warmly welcome students, parents, carers, staff, employers, and training providers to explore how we prepare young people for successful, fulfilling futures. As a progressive and forward-thinking school, we strive to take a positive and influential role in the careers community across York and within the York and North Yorkshire Careers Hub, developing meaningful partnerships that benefit both our learners and the local economy.

Our commitment to excellence is demonstrated by our recent accreditation with the prestigious Quality in Careers Standard (QICS)—a rigorous national award that reinforces our dedication to high-quality Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) for all our staff and students.

We review our careers programme at least three times per year against the Gatsby Benchmarks to ensure it remains robust, relevant, and impactful. Feedback from students, staff, parents/carers, employers, and governors is actively sought, carefully considered, and used to shape and refine our provision.

We engage fully and transparently with the local, regional, and national careers community, including through initiatives such as the Careers and Enterprise Company’s Careers Impact System, ensuring our practice is informed by the latest developments and best practice.

Student progress is carefully tracked throughout their journey at Huntington, with close collaboration between the careers team, pastoral teams, and—where appropriate—external agencies to provide personalised, bespoke support tailored to individual needs.

Following careers events in school, students take part in follow-up lessons where their understanding of key careers-based learning objectives is assessed. Any misconceptions or misunderstandings are addressed by the careers team to ensure clarity and confidence in their next steps.

We also encourage employers and training providers to get in touch—we are keen to explore opportunities to build mutually beneficial partnerships that provide meaningful experiences for our staff and students, while supporting local workforce development.
