As a Huntington Sixth Form student, you will be required to have access to a device for use in lessons, study periods and for homework. This is to help streamline your work and keep things organised, as well as helping to prepare you for the world of work. 

Teaching staff will outline to staff how devices will be used in your subjects throughout the year. This will vary between subjects.

We do not want this to be a huge cost - there is no requirement for your device to be new, or a particular model or brand. It may be a device you already own or a refurbished device.

The core requirements for a suitable device are:

• 13-inch screen
• Ability to access the internet via a browser using Wi-Fi. 
• Battery life that will last a minimum of one hour unplugged.
• A keyboard.

Refurbished devices

It is possible to get a good quality device with a good specification as a refurbished device. These can be purchased at a much lower price and also help to reduce e-waste.  Getonline@home is one such provider. New devices

As noted above, a new device does not have to be top of the range. A mid-range laptop or Chromebook such as those available from high street retailers would be sufficient for the type of work you are likely to complete in 6th form.

Affordability

There are ways to spread the cost of a device, with many retailers offering interest-free monthly instalment plans. If you qualify for the Sixth Form Bursary, you are able to use that funding to purchase a device.

If you want to purchase a new device that has the potential to last beyond your time at Huntington, making it more cost effective in the long run, the following guide offers to some key specification elements to consider.

All devices must meet the minimum requirements to be suitable for use in lessons and private study.

• The minimum requirements are:  
• Screen: Minimum 13 inch 
• RAM: Minimum 8GB 
• Memory: 256GB SSD 
• Processor: Minimum 8th Gen Intel i3 (or equivalent) 
• Operating system: Windows 11 (or equivalent)
• Will hold a minimum of 6 hours charge (it will not need charging during the school day) 
• Has a keyboard plus mouse/trackpad
