HIGHER LEVEL TEACHING ASSISTANT - Reading Intervention Lead
Full time, Permanent
Grade 7 £31,497 - £33,727
Staff and pupils value reading. Sixth-form pupils support pupils who are in the earlier stages of reading. The texts that pupils engage with are appropriate and interesting. – Ofsted 2023
Huntington is an 11-18 co-educational comprehensive school with a Sixth Form taking our total student numbers over 1500, which includes over 300 students in the Sixth Form. Our students achieve excellent results, year-in, year-out, both at GCSE and A-level.
We are seeking an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant to deliver high‑quality reading support through small‑group and one-to-one interventions, working primarily with pupils in lower Key Stage 3 and, over time, Key Stage 4. Strong knowledge of phonics‑based intervention is essential. Experience with Read Write Inc. and other reading interventions or assessment tools is desirable but not required, as full training will be provided.
Working closely with the Whole‑School Reading Leader and the SENDCO, the post‑holder will play an active role in coordinating and delivering weekly intervention timetables within our Hub setting. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work regularly with some of our most disadvantaged pupils and make a lasting impact on their progress and long-term outcomes. The role also contributes to strengthening reading continuity between the primary and secondary phases.
Most interventions will take place within our inclusion space. However, there may be occasions where support is delivered in‑class to individual pupils or small groups within a reading context.
Huntington School is committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. Enhanced DBS disclosure is required for appointment to this post.
